Missouri Electric Bill Assistance

Are you a resident of Missouri having trouble paying your electric bill? Have you fallen behind on your utilites or need repairs and improvements to your home heating system that you cannot afford?  If so, you may be able to take advantage of some of these Missouri Electric Bill Assistance Programs.

The largest program for utility bill help in Missouri is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.  There are two programs offered through LIHEAP: the Energy Assistance/Regular Heating Program (EA) and the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP).

The EA program provides eligible low income MO residents with financial assistance to help pay heating bills during the winter months (October through March).  ECIP provides additional weatherization services for households who need to make efficency improvements or repairs to their homes that would lower heating and electricity costs.

Both programs are administered through Community Action Agencies.  To learn more or to apply, find and contact your local Community Action Agency.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources offers a low income weatherization assistance program as well.  To learn more and to apply, contact your local agency here: http://www.dnr.mo.gov/energy/weatherization/wxmap.htm

Most utility and power companies also have their own internal assistance programs for low income, elderly, and other disadvantaged customers.  Rate assistance and weatherization services are usually included.  To find out what your company offers, contact them directly.

In addition to the government and utility companies, many charities offer emergency assistance for your heating and electric bills.  These funds are often very limited, but these programs are there as a last resort when you are faced with an emergency.
